Choir Concert in the Alps:  27 Nov 2013 - 5 Dec 2013

Day 1:  OR Tambo - Munich (We 27 Nov. 2013)
We depart from OR International Airport, Johannesburg, for Munich, Germany. (Remember to have your passports ready..)

Day 2:  Munich - Vienna (Th 28 Nov. 2013)
We arrive in Munich International Airport, where we depart by Coach to Vienna. On the way there, we make a stop in Passau, to visit the world's biggest organ! Arrive in Vienna for a wonderful musical, festive stay for the next three days.

Vienna is now included in the list of UNESCO Heritage of Mankind, beacause of its unique appearance. The historic centre of Vienna is rich in architectural ensembles, including Baroque castles and gardens, as well as the late 19th century Ringstrasse, lined with grand buildings, monuments and parks.

Since the 16th century, Vienna has been universally acknowledged to be the musical capital of Europe, with the heritage of the composers Strauss, Mozart, Schubert, Haydn, and Beethoven.

After your Check In to your Hotel, enjoy an orientation tour through Vienna!
As it gets dark early in Austria, you will love to see the streets decorated in Christmas lights...

Day 3:  Vienna (Fr. 29 Nov. 2013)
After breakfast, we go for a city tour through Vienna. You will see the historical centre, St. Stephan's Cathedral, the Karlskirche, the State Opera, and the Hofburg. In the afternoon, visit the Christmas Market around the city hall, and perform/attend an Advent concert there.

Vienna Christmas Market, next to the City Hall Square, is a very special yuletide highlight. Performances of Christmas music will be starting in the City Hall on the first week of Advent, the ever-popular carol concerts featuring coral groups from all over the globe.

Afterwards we visit the beautiful Christmas Market.

Day 4:  Vienna (Sa. 30 Nov. 2013)
After breakfast, your bus will transfer you to Esterhazy Palace in the Burgenland.

We visit Esterhazy Palace with the "Haydn Saal" and the Haydn Church, with a licenced English speaking guide. The "Haydn Saal" in the Esterhazy Palace was built in mid 17th century, and is a very important hall in music history since the 18th century. It has great acoustics. As its name shows, the composer Joseph Haydn had worked more than 30 years, and many of his Symphonies were performed here for the first time.

Enjoy a guided tour through the pompous Esterhazy Palace!

Next, we get back to Vienna to visit the Schonbrunn Palace for a guided tour, and attend an informal concert at the stairs to Schonbrunn Palace.

Visit the Christmas Market at the Schonbrunn Palace, where every year visitors from all over the world are enchanted by its seasonal atmosphere. The glittering lights of the Christmas tree in front of the baroque Schonbrunn Palace provide the ideal setting for the romantic Advent village with the enticement of delicious food, savoury aromas and Austrian craftsmanship. A delicate fragrance of gingerbread, punch and roast chestnuts wafts over the courtyard in front of the Palace, offering a haven of Christmas repose from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Day 5:  Vienna - Salzburg (Su. 1 Dec. 2013)
We travel by coach to Salzburg. the city of Mozart's birth!
Salzburg is located in the Salzach River Valley. Unique during the Holy Empire, it was called the northern Rome, due to the importance of the Prince Archbishops and the Baroque.
Salzburg's reputation is based on a living musical tradition - land of "The Sound of Music"!
Its beauty and vibrant musical life have made Salzburg one of Europe's foremost cultural centres.

Enjoy a half day city tour with an English speaking, licenced tour guide.

It is very Christmassy in Salzburg with the Salzburg Christmas Market. This tradition and ambience of the market make an ideal setting to startt off the Christmas season. Every year visitors are enchanted by the charm of Cathedral Square, the traditional booths, the strings of light, and the quality of the diversified items on sale.

Salzburg Christmas Market is a feast for all the senses: the delicious scent of mulled wine wafts around booths adorned with precious, decorative, old and new items. Performances by traditional Salzburg choirs and children's school groups lure a crowd of visitors year after year. The market will be opened by the Archbishop on the 1st Saturday in Advent right after the blessing of the Advent wreaths.

In the evening, perform/attend a joined concert together with a local choir and wonderful Advent music.

Day 6:  Salzburg (Mo. 2 Dec. 2013)
Today you have the choice of an optional tour to the Karkogel at Abtenau, for some sportive action: a special sledging course for beginners!

After breakfast, your bus will drive you to Abtenau, a small village in the countryside, where at the Karkogel, a lift will bring you to the top of the course, before you can race down the 3km sledding route! Afterwards enjoy a hot beverage at the cottage nearby. After getting warmed up again, visit one of the most romantic Christmas Markets in the world, at Hellbrunn Castle.

A romantic courtyard, a path lined by torches and an oversized Advent calendar are part of the magic of Advent. Romantic booths, tempting treats and pre-christmas gift ideas add to the charming atmosphere. Children will enjoy a ride in the sled, drawn by real reindeer. An exciting entertainment program between the organery and the park, will assure that Advent afternoons at Hellbrunn Palace are convivial.

Alternatively you have the day free to explore the city of Salzburg, and take in the spirit of Christmas in one of the music centres of the world.

Day 7:  Salzburg - Munich (Tu 3 Dec. 2013)
We depart for Munich and check in. Munich is Germany's well known "City of Gemutlichkeit"
It is the capital of the German Federal State of Bavaria, and Germany's third largest city - one of Europe's most prosperous and expensive cities.

The city is located on the River Isar, north of the Bavarian Alps, and an inspiring mix of historic buildings and impressive architecture. Munich reconstructed the ruins of their historic buildings, and also created new landmarks of architecture.

Enjoy a half day guided tour with an English speaking licenced tour guide, before throwing yourself into the huge Christmas Market in Munich. Different to Austria, the Christmas Market in Germany vary with their products. You will find a lot more tools for craftsmen, as it is the Bavarian tradition!

Enjoy the traditional Bavarian Christmas food, together with a hot punch.

Day 8:  Munich - Johannesburg (We 4 Dec. 2013)
We depart for Munich International Airport, for our flight home.

Day 9:  OR Tambo, Johannesburg
We arrive in Johannesburg at OR Tambo Intl Airport, and say a last farewell to all our new friends, until we meet again on another tour around the globe!
